Moberly Mountain House
Located northwest of Golden, British Columbia, this residence is designed to operate entirely off-grid. The project integrates on-site systems for energy, water, and waste, supporting a self-sufficient and resilient approach to rural living.
Power is generated through roof-mounted solar panels, while heating and cooling are managed through a combination of a central wood stove and a heat recovery ventilator (HRV). Water is sourced from an on-site well, with wastewater directed to a septic field.
The building envelope utilizes insulated concrete forms (ICF) for the foundation and wall assemblies, improving thermal performance and year-round comfort in a climate defined by cold winters and warm summers. A heavy timber structure defines the primary living spaces, with generous covered outdoor areas along the south and west elevations extending usability and providing protection from the elements.
