East Van Clinic
Situated within a generous space in an aging industrial building in East Vancouver, this project introduces texture and softness into an inherently rugged environment. The sharp, geometric character of the existing architecture—defined by exposed brick walls and raw concrete floors and ceilings—is thoughtfully contrasted with the introduction of soft textiles and rounded forms, creating a brighter, more inviting atmosphere.
Curvilinear elements are integrated throughout the design to establish this dialogue, carving out niches within the existing framework that offer moments of privacy while also guiding movement intuitively through the space. These niches are outfitted with functional features that double as playful interventions, using colour and form to engage users, draw them in, and blur the line between utility and sculpture.
