Island Restaurant
Originally a single-family residence, the Island Restaurant is located on a shoreline site within the Gulf Islands. The project involves the full renovation and adaptation of the existing building into a restaurant serving both local and international visitors.
The design is grounded in a culinary concept rooted in regional ingredients and the surrounding landscape. In parallel, the architecture reflects the material character and atmosphere of place through a restrained natural palette.
A guiding notion of “duality” informs the design approach, expressed through contrasts of light and shadow, sun and interior stillness. This interplay is used to create a sense of transience and variation throughout the dining experience, framing both the food and the surrounding views as central elements of the spatial narrative.
