McGill Loft

Located in the McGill Block in Inglewood, Calgary, the McGill Loft occupies a rare heritage loft conversion within a building dating back to 1912. The space benefits from expansive glazing on two sides, capturing views of downtown, surrounding neighbourhoods, and the Bow and Elbow Rivers.

The layout responds to a long entry corridor that organizes storage and leads into a divided kitchen composed of contrasting black and white cabinetry. The dining area is framed within this arrangement, positioned adjacent to large perimeter windows. The bedroom is located at the far end of the unit, separated from the living space by a partial-height wall that allows light to pass through while maintaining spatial definition.

A restrained material palette balances modern interventions with the heritage character of the building. Glossy finishes reflect light throughout the space, contrasted with matte and natural materials such as hickory flooring and millwork to introduce warmth.

Custom lighting elements, designed by 2x2, include a brass-piped entry fixture and a repurposed three-pendant cluster in the living area, forming a sculptural feature visible from the street.
